Kurt & Scott Hintz, Div. 4 - Odessa, Texas

Kurt & Scott Hintz

HINTZ HITS THE NUMBERS!

Home Team Short Blocks SHOP TOUR Kurt & Scott Hintz, Div. 4 Odessa, Texas Winner Scott Hintz from Odessa, Texas had the advantage at the tree with a .010 RT to runner-up Darrell Froboese's .023 RT but that wasn't the end of it. Hintz also ran dead on his 4.99 dial with a 4.99 at 140.27 mph to Foboese's breakout run of 5.30 on a 5.32 dial, 132.28 mph.

Scott said, "The car was consistent all day and my worst light was a .026." His father, Kurt Hintz said, "I want to emphasize how well that motor ran. It's a 638-cid Steve Schmidt Competition Engine. Steve builds Pro Stock engines, but he pays so much attention to even the little guys like us that he goes far beyond what I'd expect. If I send him the motor at any point in time, he'll send it back in a week and that's amazing considering the quality work he does. The motor is just awesome. For us it's a family activity and we are either racing or working on the car every weekend. My wife Debbie is fully involved, she has taken over the statistics and she has the car immaculate every time it goes up to the line."

Twenty-year-old Scott Hintz is currently leading the divisional points. He began racing last year when Kurt turned over the keys to the '97 Mustang that he himself had been driving, a car that Scott and Kurt had built together. Kurt has built a new car for himself but for right now. his priority is pit crewing for Scott. This is Scott's first Iron Man and Kurt is beyond proud.

Kurt said, "We couldn't have been more excited! Scott was runner-up in Eddyville, Iowa last weekend and winning here the next weekend is fantastic. Scott was steady all day and he ran five 4.99's in a row during eliminations. We also want to thank the good Lord for a safe race. That's the bottom line of the win. Scott thanks God, dad Kurt, mom Debbie, girlfriend Sherry, Engine and carburetor builder Keith Dillard. Dillard has built for NASCAR drivers. Scott's carb is one of the first built for drag racing and Scott attributes the car's consist- ency to the carburetor. Taurus Manufacturing also sponsors Scott.
